Sore Muscles

Today I wanted to go to the gym to do some weight training, but unfortunately I don’t feel up for it. It’s not laziness, it’s just that I got really sore muscles. I got sore muscles in my legs and very tight muscles in my shoulders/neck. I didn’t expect to get such sore muscles from the spin class. I don’t mind it though; I am even thinking about making the spinning class a weekly thing now.

If it was just sore leg muscles I would have gone to the gym, but it’s the tightness in my neck and shoulders that is bothering me. Last night I already had a massive headache, which was caused by my neck problem. This morning it had gotten worse so I decided it was better to skip the gym for a day instead of going and making it worse.

At the moment I’m using heat packs and one of those ‘heat’ creams in the hope to loosen it up a bit. I hope I feel a bit better tomorrow so I can make up for the day off. I also haven’t heard anything about the 8 week challenge yet, while that’s supposed to start on Monday.

Exercise 01-02-2008

spinningToday I had planned to go to boxing class, but I got the times mixed up. I thought it started at 9.45 am, but it actually started at 8.45 am. I always go to the gym a bit early so I can do a bit of a warm up before the class, but when I arrived I saw they already had started. I was pretty disappointed because I really had been looking forward to it.

Instead I decided to do a spinning/cycle class. I heard spinning is very good for you if you want to burn fat. It was an alright class, much better than programs on normal stationary bikes. I didn’t like the music much, but I guess if you go to the gym you’re just gonna have to put up with it. The other thing that I didn’t like were the seats. I already had a sore bum during the warm up! Maybe next time I should bring a pillow to sit on…

Exercise 31-01-2008

I have decided to drop the shoulder raise exercises. Doing these exercises puts too much strain on my neck. Every time I do them the neck pain gets stirred up and it causes headaches as well. I have to accept that after my car accident I just can’t do as much anymore as I used to do.

Today I’ve only done cardio. Tomorrow I hope to do a boxing class for the first time. I am really looking forward to it.

Cardio

  • 25 min. Cross trainer - level 2 - 13/14 km/h
  • 35 min. Bike riding - level 7 - random program - 85/95 rpm
  • 10 min. Treadmill - 5.6 km/h

Exercise 30-01-2008

Today I finally had another body combat class again. I am not sure which body combat release we had, but I didn’t find it as exciting as the body combat classes I am used to. Too many gingers and not enough elbows, knees, kicks and punches. I like a little bit more aggression. I wasn’t even tired afterwards so I did a bit of extra cardio afterwards. Can’t wait for the 8 week challenge to start.

Cardio

  • 60 min. Body Combat
  • 20 min. Cross trainer - level 2 - 13 km/h
  • 20 min. Treadmill - 5.6 km/h

Weight Training

  • 3x 15 reps Lat Pull Down - 20 kg
  • 3x 15 reps Chest Press - 15 kg
  • 3x 15 reps Leg Press - 40 kg
  • 3x 15 reps Bicep Curls - 4 kg
  • 3x 15 reps Triceps - 5 kg
  • 3x 15 reps Lateral Shoulder Raise - 3 kg
  • 3x 15 reps Front Shoulder Raise - 3 kg
  • Various Ab exercises

No exercise for two days

I haven’t been to the gym for the last two days. Yesterday was Australia Day and the gym was open on limited hours. Unfortunately I had to see a Neurosurgeon during those hours for a neck injury. The appointment itself was disappointing; he didn’t really examine me, just asked some questions to make up a rapport that my lawyer wants to use in our claim related to our car accident.

This morning I woke up with a massive headache and neck pain. I had to go to the chiropractor in the late morning and had planned to go to a boxing class before that, but I decided against it because of the bad pain. The chiropractor made some much needed adjustments and I hope to go to body combat class tomorrow morning.

I also took it a bit easy on the ‘healthy eating’ thing today. I had chocolate peanuts and chips from the take away shop for dinner. I felt too shit to cook. I am not going to beat myself up about it. Tomorrow is another day with a new chance to do it the healthy way.
